The annual Girl Scout cookie drop supports female entrepreneurship and celebrates the moment 1,000,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies land in Greater Hampton Roads. Volunteers are needed to help with traffic control and loading cookies from the line into the cars of the Girl Scout troop leaders, who then get the cookies in the hands of the “Cookie Entrepreneur Officers” aka, the girls. Volunteers can choose their shift (7:00 am – 10:00 am or 9:30 am – 12:30 pm or work all day). Think of this morning as a giant assembly line like in the episode of I Love Lucy, where Lucy and Ethel are working in the chocolate factory. It is super fun, and a day with a lot of press. It would be wonderful to show the community how much Rotary supports the Empowering Girls Initiative. The best part of this volunteer experience is each volunteer gets one of the first boxes of Girl Scout cookies!! Once you have indicated your interest in volunteering by accepting this invitation, I will email you for which shift you would like to work (7:00 am – 10:00 am or 9:30 am – 12:30 pm or work all day). |

Join us at First Landing State Park on Saturday, June 3rd, in a large scale Chesepeake Bay clean up event. I apologize for the late email! After June's events, we intend to advertise volunteer opportunities as far in advance as possible to maximize everyone's availablity. Family and friends are welcome, but we will need accurate numbers by Thursday, June 1st, so the volunteer coordinator can have our names on the list. Clean the Bay Day has two purposes: One is to remove as much litter from our waterways and shorelines as possible. The other is to collect data on the type and amount of litter collected. That data is used by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to guide advocacy and legislation to protect our waterways. From the State Park Volunteer Coordinator:
Can't wait to see some of you there! |

Come volunteer at the Samaritan House's "Step Into the Light" black tie gala event on June 10th! This is a last minute addition to our schedule, so please don't feel obligated to make it if you have other plans already. Volunteers would be welcoming guests, collecting donations, collecting bids for the silent auction, and checking people in at the registration booth.
The dress code is black tie but a nice dress will be fine or a nice suit. The Granby theater is where the gala will be held. I'd love to see you there!

Join us for dinner and a presentation by Gina Benefiel, the Executive Director of the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation. Ms. Benefiel will speak about the unique rescue and EMS system we have in Virginia Beach. The Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation supports an independent and vital emergency medical care and transport system – one of the largest in the country that relies predominantly on well-trained, skilled and dedicated volunteers. Some 1,000 men and women from every walk of life serve the community under the direction of the City of Virginia Beach EMS Department. There are ten squads altogether throughout the 255-square mile wide city, the 41st most populous in the nation with nearly 450,000 residents. Each squad is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that finances its operational needs through individual fundraising. As a result, pre-hospital emergency medical care in the City of Virginia Beach is free to all and contributes to over $23-million in annual cost savings to the taxpayers. |

Virginia Beach Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a community-based program that recruits, trains and supports citizen-volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courtroom and our community. Volunteer advocates—empowered directly by the courts—offer judges the critical information they need to ensure that each child’s rights and needs are prioritized. For many abused children, a CASA volunteer is the most consistent adult presence in their lives.
The mission of Virginia Beach CASA is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so that EVERY abused and neglected child can be safe, establish permanence and have the opportunity to thrive.
Join us for this dinner meeting where we will hear from Tiffany Arguello, CASA's Director of Development and Compliance, and Olivia Rasquiza, their Program Manager.
Special guest David Oakley, District Assistant Govenor, will also join us to induct new members into the club. |
