Keano Rich of Ocean Lakes High School was honored on May 16, 2019, as the recipient of the Brickell Scholarship.  Andrea Pember, First Colonial High School, was announced as winner of the Richard A. Schlimgen Student Leadership Memorial Scholarship by Dr. Aaron Spence, Superintendent, Virginia Beach City Public Schools.  Recognition of the 2019 Jim Spore Community Service Winner was presented to Will Butler, Kellam High School by James K. Spore, Retired City Manager of Virginia Beach

Fourteen (14) Club members (Barbara, Bob, Dan, Eva, Hearst, Linda, Lorrie, Mac, Mike, Patti, Richard, Ross, Steve and Wayne); and 143 guests met at the Crowne Plaza Hotel for our Annual Scholarship Recognition Dinner meeting.  President Hearst Vann began the evening’s event at 6:10 p.m. with the Call to Order and Welcome.  He gave remarks including that this event has been held for the past 30 years.  Rotarian Mike Summers gave the invocation and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Master of Ceremonies, Past President Dan Edwards and Chairman of the Scholarship Committee then gave remarks and personally thanked Angela Boubouheropoulos and Robin Schucker, with the Gifted Programs Department of Virginia Beach City Public Schools for their assistance and support.  He then introduced our Keynote Speaker, Honorable Glenn R. Davis., Jr., Delegate 84th District, General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Delegate Davis gave an inspirational speech about not letting failure define or keep you from following your dreams. 
 
Recognition of the 2019 Richard A. Schlimgen, Student Leadership Memorial Scholarship Winner, was presented to Andrea Pember, First Colonial High School, by Dr. Aaron Spence, Superintendent, Virginia Beach City Public Schools; Recognition of the 2019 Jim Spore Community Service Winner was presented to Will Butler, Kellam High School by James K. Spore, Retired City Manager of Virginia Beach; Recognition of the 2019 Brickell Scholarship Winner was presented to Keano Rich, Ocean Lakes High School by PP Dan and President Hearst; followed by the Presentation to the 2019-2020 Brickell Scholars by Dr. Aaron Spence who gave each scholar a glass paperweight. 
 
Past President, Dan Edwards, then provided a scholarship program summary and gave closing remarks. 
 
President Hearst Vann then thanked everyone for attending the special dinner meeting and closed with the Rotary 4-Way Test.  The meeting adjourned at 7:40 PM.
