Review of March 21th Rotary Business Meeting:

Twelve (12) Club members (Bob, Bud, Dan, Eva, Hearst, Linda, Mac, Mike, Patti, Richard, Ross and Wayne) met at the Crowne Plaza for the business meeting.
President Hearst began the meeting at 6:20 p.m. with the Call to Order and Welcome.  Past President Linda gave the invocation and Wayne led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
President Hearst asked PE Eva to talk about the road trip meeting at BOJUart Gallery on March 28th.  Rotarians, spouses, Friends and prospective members are invited from 6:00-7:00 p.m., followed by dinner at Croc’s (7:15-8:30 p.m.  A signup sheet was passed around to members.  President Hearst talked about the upcoming Rotary Leadership Institute on April 26 at Virginia Wesleyan University.  Members will be able to take Parts I, II, or III.
Dan told the club about his server issues and semi-permanent damage to his computer which prohibited him from providing the treasurer’s report.  He stated that we have “money in the bank” and that the profit and loss statement had been reconciled.  The club had five membership renewals.
Mike provided a summary report of the Corks for Cures event. The Club netted $6,045.66.  He recommended that we stay at 100 participants.
Bud gave a Foundation report.  He stated that the goal for the Foundation is $1500 and that six Rotarians were added at Paul Harris Fellows.  Bud also stated that our annual grant funding requests should be submitted in April and that the grants would be given out to recipients on the first Thursday in June.
Dan stated that Glenn Davis will be the Brickell speaker this year.
Barbara stated that she is keeping the club’s Facebook page and website up-to-date.  She asked members to share any newsworthy articles to her for posting.  Barbara also stated that a LinkedIn account may be useful as well.

President Hearst then talked about the future of the Club:
  • Challenge of succession planning, as no one wants to be the President Elect.  He asked that members consider being an officer.
  • Financial considerations of meeting at the Crowne Plaza which requires a minimum of 15 members for each plated dinner.  The cost is $21.00 per person two times a month.
  • Events being fully-staffed with members and volunteers
  • Alternative meeting location, perhaps at TCC
  • Merger with one of the breakfast and lunch clubs in Virginia Beach, including the club at Town Center.  Richard stated that he would negotiate the merger free of charge.
It was decided to facilitate conversation with the other Rotary Clubs in Virginia Beach.
Sergeant-of-Arms Ross conducted “Happy Bucks!”  Members gave in honor of various reasons as follows:
Patti- $1.00
Barb - $1.00
Dan - $7.00
Linda - $1.00
Eva - $3.00
Richard – $1.00
Ross - $1.00
Hearst - $5.00
Total Collected:  $20.00
President Hearst closed the meeting with the Rotary 4-Way Test.  The meeting adjourned at 7:50 PM.
